What is Elix?
Elix is a ground-breaking maintenance scheme open to all the churches and chapels in Suffolk. For five years, starting in winter 2009/10, places of worship joining the scheme will have a contractor:
- Clean all guttering, eaves, and parapets
- Check all gutters are secure and free from leaks
- Clean all down-pipes and check for leaks
- Clean out all above ground gulleys
- Check the condition of the manholes
- Rod the drains and ensure they are clear
- Remove any waste from site
- Advise on any defects/works that should be considered
- Take photographs of any defect found, as well as photographs of the completed work
The Elix scheme is being run by the Diocese of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich and is supported by Suffolk Historic Churches Trust and MY Group. The Elix scheme costs just £260 a year plus VAT and the first 300 places of worship to join the scheme will qualify for an annual £130 grant towards the cost.
