About Faith in Maintenance

Places of worship are integral to the landscape of Britain, representing centuries of faith, craftsmanship and design.

Many of our most precious faith-related buildings are in desperate need of repair and rely on the help of local communities. Faith in Maintenance is a unique project that aims to provide training and support for the thousands of volunteers in England and Wales who help to maintain our historic places of worship.

Sara and Kate at St Dunstan's Stepney Faith in Maintenance will provide 30 training courses each year helping over 6,000 volunteers to look after a variety of faith buildings across the country. Along with protecting significant historic structures, the project will also encourage more people to become actively involved in their local community's heritage. One of the key aspects of the scheme is that the training courses are free and are available to any faith group using a historic building for its worship.

Faith in Maintenance is run by Sara Crofts, an architect and former SPAB Lethaby Scholar with a background in historic building conservation. She is assisted by project administrator Kate Minnis.
